Exploring Northwest Trails

Locally our area of SW Washington State offers excellent trail options that are off the beaten path but you can be home in time for dinner or surprisingly just a block away hidden in dense housing areas. Owned or manage by State Parks, Federal Forest Land and County Parks Department.

Local Options

Whipple Creek Park, Vancouver WA
Located just west of the I-5 Freeway at the NE 179th St exit. Go west to NW 21st Ave and turn Left. Parking lot is at the end of the road and ample trailer parking and easy turn around. Lots of diverse trail terrain. Switchbacks, steep up/downhill and nice level ground offer plenty of exercise options. I have no problem getting in a 3 hour ride.

Battle Ground Lake, Battle Ground WA
This is a multi-use park that has a lake for non motorized boating, swimming and hiking. Around the lake is nice easy trail that is great to give your horse exposure to people, traffic noise that for the most part you can't see without the challenges of difficut ground or steep angles. The parking is abundant and they offer mounting areas.
